What Can Brittany Help Treat?

Brittany has been in the counselling field since 2013 and has always been passionate about guiding clients toward healing. She believes everyone has the strengths they need, and sometimes we just need a little help, and humour to overcome our experiences, live a more fulfilling life, and find our joy. Brittany’s clients gain many skills, new perspectives and beliefs about themselves and the world, more comfort in their bodies, and more confidence in their lives.

Brittany specializes in working with adults who are living with trauma/PTSD,  complex PTSD, bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, phobias, discrimination (gender, race, sex orientation), grief and loss, BFRBs, pain, anger, sexual abuse, domestic violence, suicidal ideation, self-harm, self-worth, perfectionism, addiction (including Behavioural Addiction), and stress.

Trauma, PTSD, and Complex Trauma

Brittany has focused a large part of her career on the treatment of trauma and PTSD. She has extensive training and experience working with all types of trauma.

 

In trauma treatment, Brittany primarily utilizes EMDR and clinical hypnosis, and integrates solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, CBT, mindfulness, and other modalities. Through the development of a strong therapeutic relationship, and Brittany’s wealth of experience, she is confident she can help you overcome your traumatic experiences.

Anxiety Disorders and Phobias

A large part of Brittany’s work has focused on the treatment of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, performance anxiety, and panic disorders.

 

Brittany can help you understand where the anxiety comes from, what triggers it and how to manage it. Brittany is skilled at helping you develop a tool kit filled with effective coping skill and strategies that you can confidently carry with you, even outside of therapy. Whenever you feel overcome with anxiety, you can refer to your tool kit to help you through it. Brittany is also skilled in treating fears and phobias.

Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviours

BFRBs are widely neglected concerns, which impact a large number of people in our community. Hair-pulling, skin-picking, severe nail biting, nose picking, and cheek biting are all common BFRBs, that are treatable. With a knowledgeable therapist, you can overcome the shame, stop the behaviours, and live the kind of life you want to. Brittany has training specific to BFRBs, including the Comprehensive Behavioural Model for BFRBs (ComB), and specialized EMDR training. She can help you come up with an individualized treatment plan, as she knows that BFRBs have many different characteristics.

Grief and Loss

Everyone experiences grief and loss at some point in their life. Grief can be caused by the loss of a loved one, a pet, or even a job. Brittany’s personal experiences, combined with her training and experience, allow her to empathetically, and effectively help individuals overcome grief, including traumatic grief.

 

When you are ready, Brittany can help you reconnect to the positive memories you have, and learn to move forward.

Brittany has a special interest in helping those experiencing pain, and chronic pain. Having seen success with clinical hypnosis and EMDR pain protocols, Brittany would love to help you reduce your pain, and get back to activities you enjoy.

Bipolar Disorders

The ups and downs related to Bipolar Disorders can be exhausting. Brittany has been working with these disorders since the beginning or her practicum, and is confident in helping clients accept their diagnosis, overcome shame, and manage symptoms of bipolar depression and mania.

Brittany's Approaches

In treating individuals, Brittany primarily uses eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), hypnotherapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).

More About Brittany

Early in her career, Brittany completed a practicum in walk-in counselling and continued to volunteer and work in this area for several years. Since becoming the mom of two young boys, she has focused on building her expertise in individual counselling, professional consultation, as well as EMDR and clinical hypnosis practice. Brittany and her family are dog lovers and have a chow, shepherd, lab cross named Rango.
