What is Family Therapy?

Family therapy is a powerful tool for helping families improve their communication, emotional awareness, and overall relationship. In family therapy, everyone gets an equal voice and each person has the opportunity to share their opinions without being judged or criticized by anyone else in the room. This helps create a sense of trust that didn't exist before between family members which allows them to move forward together as one unit rather than being divided into individual parts.

What Can Counselling Help With?

Family therapy can help identify issues such as unresolved grief or trauma, addiction issues, depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns, lack of trust within the family unit or between family members, financial difficulties or conflicts over money management. Family therapists are trained in helping families improve communication skills so they can better resolve conflicts when they arise. It also helps children who may be struggling by providing them with tools they can use at home when dealing with difficult situations such as sibling rivalry or parental conflict.

Blended Families

We know that blending families is hard work and we want to help you do it right. Our therapists understand your unique situation and will help you navigate through any challenges that arise as you transition into a new family unit.

Adoption

Adoption is a life-changing experience. We're here to support your family as you navigate common challenges with attachment and bonding, language barriers, cultural differences, parenting, trust, grief, trauma and more.

Divorce and Separation

Our family therapists work with members of your family to navigate the separation in a way that is supportive, respectful, and productive. We want to help you move past the pain so that you can start to focus on how to build a better future together.

Parenting & Co-parenting

It's hard to find a balance between being an active parent and being a good co-parent. You may not always agree on what's best for the kids, but you both still want them to be happy and healthy. Family counselling can help you figure out where your common ground is and how to make it work for everyone.

Differences in Opinions

Having different religious, political or social views can cause a lot of tension among family members. Family therapy can help family members learn how to respectfully communicate with each other, acknowledge everyone's opinions, as well as understand why they feel the way they do.

Grief and Loss

Family counselling is a great option for families that are struggling with an unspeakable loss in their lives. It helps grieving families process their loss, support each other through this difficult time and heal together so that they can move on from this experience.

Troubled Children

When a child is having trouble, it can be a source of tension in an otherwise harmonious family. Family therapy provides a safe space where your family can discuss what's going on with your child, how it affects you as a parent or sibling, and how to move forward together.

Setting Boundaries

Setting boundaries with family members may be one of the most challenging aspects within a family dynamic. A family therapist works with family members to set appropriate boundaries and learn to respect each other, as well as the individual needs and feelings of each person.

Financial Issues

Financial issues or poor financial management often cause arguments within a family. Family therapists can help families to improve their relationship with money, and avoid future conflicts by improving their communication and understanding of each other's needs.

Improve Communication

Communication is the foundation of every family. It's how we share our feelings, hopes, and dreams with one another. It's how we work through disagreements and navigate the inevitable challenges of being together all the time. And it's how we build a future together. Family therapy helps families communicate effectively so they can deal with problems in their relationships and resolve conflicts more easily.

Domestic Violence

We understand that living in a domestic violence situation can be extremely difficult to navigate. Our family therapists work with you and your family to create a safe space in which to explore your options and develop a plan for moving forward. Our goal is to support each person involved in the healing process, so that you can make informed decisions about your safety and well-being.
