Words are Power

How is your New Year Resolution going?

Are you like me? I make New Year’s resolution every year. I know it has been said that they don’t work, but I believe in them. Honestly, some I stick with some I don’t! I start by writing out what I want for the year, and then think about how I can get there. One of them is to get healthier! So I have been to the gym a handful of times already and it is filled with people with good intentions. It can be difficult to stick to your goals especially when it’s -40 outside and your sons hockey season is filling up your schedule like the snow on your sidewalk! Does shovelling snow count?

Something that has helped me obtain my goals over the years is changing my words. Words are powerful! Like a bit in a horse’s mouth directs the horse, so can your words direct your life!

Here are some examples of changing the way we speak:

Old Words New words I think I know I’ll try I will Maybe Definitely I’m not sure I’m positive I guess I’ll Confirm that I’m so stupid I need a break I have to I get to

So instead of saying “I have to go to the gym” I say “I get to go to the gym”. It makes me feel powerful and that it is my choice to go.

Or I say “I get to clean my house” instead of “I have to clean my house”. It forces me to be thankful for my house instead of resent it.

Here is another example I find myself saying a lot when asked to attend an event. I say “I am not sure” but instead if you know you do not feel like going say “I am positive I can’t make it”. I can tell you from experience; it feels so good to speak those words.

It helps me direct my life where I want it to go! Try it this week! I am still working on it!
