Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Peter has broad experience treating obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety concerns. Approaches include the development of practical tools to help individuals manage their feelings when obsessions persist, when doubt sets in, and when compulsions overwhelm, as well as a mindful cognitive-behavioral approach, coupled with exposure and response prevention (ERP) interventions.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) helps people with OCD recognize, cope with, and change unwanted and intrusive thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviours that perpetuate distress and anxiety when triggers occur. Peter pairs CBT with exposure and response prevention therapy which is an effective treatment for OCD, where a person is gradually exposed to their obsessions, and encouraged to refrain from performing the compulsions that have been used to ease anxiety and distress. Though living with OCD can be exhausting and overwhelming, with time, effort and the right approach and tools, OCD may be managed effectively.

Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people seek psychological therapy. Anxiety may be triggered by many life events, and it affects people of all ages, especially those under 50 years of age. Peter applies various approaches, including challenging ?thought distortions?, reality testing, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT Therapy), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and clinical hypnosis to help people effectively manage anxiety and move forward to live their best life. Peter has experience treating generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, performance anxiety, work-related anxiety, panic disorders and phobias.

Depression, Grief, & Loss

Peter has treated those living with mild depressive symptoms, seasonal depression, major depressive disorder, grief, loss and bipolar disorder. His approach is focused on recognizing the specific events and situations that trigger negative thoughts, beliefs and feelings, and providing the tools to help you cope and heal. Using CBT, acceptance and commitment therapy, along with mindfulness, and other techniques, Peter can help you recover and live a happier life.

Trauma and PTSD

You are not alone. Many individuals are living with the effects of past emotional, physical, sexual, and psychological trauma from childhood and adulthood. While the journey may feel overwhelming and hopeless at times, there is much hope for a better, brighter future. Peter has experience offering treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other consequences of acute, short-term and long-term trauma. He uses several effective approaches to treat trauma including clinical hypnosis, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and narrative and Gestalt therapies, which focuses on a person?s present life while gently and safely exploring past troubling and traumatic experiences.

2SLGBTQ+ Support Services

Peter recognizes that the LGBTQ+ community faces unique problems that cis-gendered and heterosexual individuals don?t encounter. These concerns may include gender dysphoria, identity questioning, acceptance, discrimination, family and friend rejection, struggles relating to coming out, and transitioning. Peter offers a compassionate approach to help you cope, heal, and blossom into becoming and accepting the best and truest version of yourself.
