Frequently asked questions

Will my insurance cover my therapy?

As this is an important concern for many clients, we advise you to check with your insurance company to determine what is available to you before coming to counselling. Some insurance providers only allow Registered Psychologists to direct bill, some allow Registered Provisional Psychologists, and Clinical Social Workers to direct bill. In general, we are able to direct bill to Blue Cross, Medavie Blue Cross, Greenshield, SSQ Insurance, Great West Life, Claim Secure and some other companies under Telus eClaims. If cost is a concern, you might also want to consider our Canadian Certified Counsellors, Registered Professional Counsellors, or Masters level students.

How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

Please review our website and/or give us a call if you would like to get to know a little bit more about us. You can read about us on the 'therapists' page. We believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship and know it is important for you to find a counsellor who you feel comfortable with; we encourage 'shopping around'.
Here is an article from Psychology Today, with ideas on knowing how to find the best therapist for you:

How long does each therapy session take?

A typical hour of psychotherapy is 50 minutes of counselling, and 10 minutes of note writing. Sessions lasting 1.5 hours consist of 75 minutes of counselling, and 15 minutes of note writing.

How much does each session cost?

The Psychologists Association of Alberta publishes a Recommended Fee Schedule. The fees for 2019 for individual and couples' sessions are $200 per hour (50 minutes of therapy and 10 minutes of paperwork). Group fees are $60.00 per hour per group member. As we have various types of counsellors, some charge less for services, allowing for us to provide a range of fees from $60/hour (student rate), up to $250/1.5 hours.

Do you offer sliding scale rates?

Some of our practitioners offer sliding fee options. You can check our Book Online page to learn more about what each professional has to offer. We are working to make psychotherapy more available and affordable. Our Masters level psychology students are very skilled and experienced. They are available at $60/session.
